Project Description

The Wyoming Water Development Office (WWDO) has funded a Level I Watershed Study in the Beaver Creek area. The purpose of the study is to evaluate watershed conditions, needs, and opportunities on rangelands, irrigated lands, wetlands, and streams. The study is being done to provide an assessment of local watershed function, identify resource concerns and opportunities for improvements. The study establishes best management practices and develops baseline water resource data. The project includes developing a:

  • Watershed inventory and description
  • Watershed management and rehabilitation plan
  • Listing of proposed watershed improvement projects
  • Project cost estimates for management activities and improvements
  • Description of the types of permits needed to complete the projects
  • Description of potential funding sources

One of the main reasons to complete the study is that it establishes eligibility for the state funding for watershed projects through the WWDO’s Small Water Project Program. Through the program, grants of up to $35,000 are available for projects where estimated construction or rehabilitation costs, permit procurement, construction engineering and project land procurement are $135,000 or less.
