Project Background
The Little Dry Creek Drainageway watershed encompasses approximately 12.7 square miles and extends through Adams County, Jefferson County,
Arvada, and Westminster. Click on this link to view the project limits. The watershed is almost
completely development and planned development in the watershed consist of residential. The Little Dry Creek Drainageway is bound on the
north by West 92nd Avenue and the south by West 62nd Avenue. The existing drainageway is approximately 8.7 miles long, 2.0 miles wide and
generally slopes down to the southeast with slopes ranging from 0.5 percent (%) to 4%.
The purpose of the project is to update the hydrology, develop alternatives to alleviate potential flooding, and complete a conceptual
design of the plan selected by the project sponsors for Little Dry Creek, Tributary B, and Shaw Heights Tributary. A Major Drainageway
Plan (MDP) will include all of these items. The project also includes a floodplain analysis, which will be documented in a Flood Hazard
Area Delineation (FHAD).
Key Project tasks include the following:
- Develop hydrology that reflects both the existing and the future land use elements
- Identify existing flooding and conveyance issues
- Develop drainage improvement alternatives
- Hold a public open house to discuss the project and findings
- Preliminary design of the selected alternative
- Delineate the floodplain along Little Dry Creek, Tributary B, and Shaw Heights Tributary
As areas develop, or redevelop, or roadway improvements are made, the information from this study will be used to guide the project sponsors
in constructing appropriate infrastructure.
